from San Francisco to Afghanistan

A benefit for Afghans4Tomorrow and First Exposures
Music by Chemystry Set & friends
Saturday, October 6 2007 at El Rio

Connecting Worlds was conceived by San Francisco musician Sven Eberlein, who envisioned his 40th birthday to be a catalyst for bringing together and supporting meaningful causes. First Exposures and Afghans4Tomorrow are connected by a common purpose to create a safe and fertile environment for those who have been held back by circumstances beyond their control.

Having integrated a wide range of musical genres with his band Chemystry Set for over ten years, collaborating with diverse organizations came as a natural extension of his creative vision for this very special benefit event at El Rio. All proceeds will go to First Exposures and Afghans4Tomorrow, two Bay Area based non-profit organizations dedicated to creating positive change in our own backyard and on the other side of the globe.

First Exposures is a unique Bay Area mentoring/photographic education program for young people, sponsored by SF Camerawork. Students ages 11-18 are recruited from local agencies serving young people with backgrounds of foster care, homelessness or low-income living situations. Mentors are photographers with a commitment to youth empowerment through education. First Exposures’ goal is not only to help develop a creative outlet for the students to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment, but also to encourage them to grow and become articulate, confident, and responsible young adults.

Afghans4Tomorrow is a non-profit, non-political organization dedicated to the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan. An all volunteer effort with members across the United Sates and in Afghanistan, the group’s focus is on education, agriculture and health projects. Providing essential services to its people through the expertise, knowledge and dedication of Afghan professionals abroad, Afghans4Tomorrow is committed toward sustainable and community driven projects in an effort to make the Afghan people economically independent.
